Anti Bullying: Promoting A Positive School Community

Findon Primary School promotes a school environment that is a welcoming, inclusive and safe place for all students, parents, teachers and staff. We take a strong stance against any bullying behaviour and have a number of student wellbeing programs and policies that promote anti-bullying attitudes and address bullying.

We know that by helping to build relationships in schools where students feel connected, valued and supported, we can reduce negative and violent behaviours such as bullying.  We offer a number of social and emotional programs and a whole school behaviour management procedure to promote positive behaviours and reduce bullying. One of the programs we offer is the Better Buddies Framework. The Better Buddies Framework is an initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation designed to create friendly and caring school communities where bullying is reduced.

Through Better Buddies, children in their first year  and middle school years buddy up and learn the values: caring for others, friendliness, respect, valuing difference, including others and responsibility. All children in the school learn these values through formal and informal activities, including their interactions with the mascot Buddy Bear, the fun-loving and caring purple bear. Better Buddies enables younger children to feel safe and cared for while older children feel valued and respected.

At Findon the following programs all target positive relationships and the reduction of bullying:

  • Our 9 school values: Care and Compassion, Respect, Fair Go, Integrity, Doing Your Best, Responsibility, Honesty, Understanding Tolerance and Inclusion, and Freedom
  • Better Buddies Framework
  • PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Styles)
  • Whole school behaviour management approach
  • Restorative Practices
